Treasure Trail

the spooky glades of this legendary
forest and find out more about its
secrets!
Sunday 24th October
Wildlife Day
– Seed Hunt Sunday
11am – 3pm
Join the rangers to hunt for fallen
acorns from the famous old oaks of
Sherwood Forest, then take some
away with you. Plant them up and
grow them on for a couple of years
before you bring them back to us to
grow on in the Tree Nursery for use
in the future Sherwood Forest area.
Come in suitable clothing for the
outdoors and be prepared to wait, as
we can only allow so many people
into the Major Oak compound at
one time.
Monday 25th October
Spooky Lanterns
10.30am – 12.30pm
& 1.30pm – 3.30pm
£5 per lantern.
Transform willow and tissue into
a special lantern to hang in your
garden or light your way this
Halloween. You’ll be amazed
at the results. Children must be
accompanied by an adult. Places
are limited so pre-booking essential.

Tuesday 26th October
‘Wizards Hats’
11am – 1pm & 2pm – 4pm
£3.50 per hat made.
With Halloween fast approaching,
come along to today’s willow
weaving workshop where, under the
expert guidance of Samantha, you’ll
design and make your very own mini
wizard’s hat, to impress your friends.
Join us in the legendary haunt of Robin Hood for a medieval feast of
3 courses. Afterwards, dance till midnight to our all-new Ceilidh band.

Are you brave enough to join one
of our famous Sherwood Forest
Halloween walks? Bring a small
torch or lantern to light your way,
and dress to spook Don’t forget
to wrap up warm underneath
though, and sorry but you will
have to leave dogs at home.
The Forest Table restaurant will
sell hot drink sales and snacks
during the evening. Numbers are
limited, so this is strictly a ticket
only event. Tickets on sale from
4th October. Please book early to

Winter Bird Walk
– International Year
of Biodiversity

Free.
Crisp winter mornings are the best
time to begin your fi rst tentative
steps into bird identifi cation. There
are fewer species about to observe
and there is little cover for them
to hide behind – but our local
population of both resident and
winter visitors will always provide
something of interest to see.

Woodland Craft Day
– Basket Making
Workshop
10am – 3pm
£25 per basket.
Come along to the Visitor Centre
and craft your very own willow
basket with expert tuition from
woodland crafts people, Ray Lister
and Samantha Pearce. Tea and
coffee provided but please bring
a packed lunch for the lunchtime
break, or pre-book a seasonal
sandwich lunch with us at just
£3.50 per person. Vegetarian option
available. Places are limited to 10

ready to welcome visitors.

St Nicholas Arrives…

Rumours abound that the Sheriff
of Nottingham is in Sherwood
Forest today to try and put a stop
to any Yuletide celebrations – let’s
hope Robin Hood is around to
save the day! Come along to cheer
for St Nicholas as he arrives at his
medieval grotto. (This event involves
some stunt fi ghting which may be
worrying for younger children unless
it is explained to them).

At this time of year when we’re all
busy enjoying ourselves, it’s easy to
forget how hard it can be for wild
birds. Come and make a simple
feeder to hang on the Centre trees
as part of tomorrow’s Tree Dressing
celebrations, and another to take
home for your garden.

A seasonal highlight in Sherwood’s
Christmas calendar. Join us to
celebrate the ancient custom of
Tree Dressing. This weekend all
over the country people will be
gathering together to show their
appreciation for trees, and where
better to celebrate the wonder of
trees than in one of England’s most
famous forests. Enjoy traditional
singing and stories or join one of the
workshops and help to create
decorations to dress the Tree as we
get ready for the Big Switch on at
4.15pm. Admire the newly dressed
tree in all its splendour as the lights
are switched on and a special visitor
makes an appearance!

You know Christmas is really on
the way when there’s a traditional
Yuletide wreath hanging on the
door! Bring along a selection of
greenery from conifer trimmings,
holly, ivy, bay clippings, pine cones
or evergreen trimmings from the
garden and we’ll show you how to
make your own. Bring a packed
lunch for the break or pre-order a
seasonal sandwich lunch for just
£3.50 (vegetarian option available).

Wrap up warm and bring a lantern
or torch to light your way on this
midwinter walk through the ancient
oaks. As the sun sinks, you never
know who you might meet along the
way or what you might find under
the ‘Tree Dressing’ oak! Warm
up afterwards in the welcoming
Forest Table restaurant where hot
drinks and yummy treats are on
sale. Numbers are limited for this
ticket only event. Tickets on sale
from 22 November. Please book

Friday 24th December
Christmas Eve Walk
11am – 12.30pm
Adults £3, children £1.50.
Escape the hustle and bustle of high
street shopping and the last minute
Christmas rush, and enjoy a gentle
stroll with a ranger through the
ancient glades of Sherwood, looking
for winter wildlife and discovering
more about this legendary forest.
(Please note: Restaurant and shops
close at 2pm today).
Sunday 26th December
Boxing Day Revival Walk
11.30am – 1pm
Adults £3, children £1.50.
If your head’s a bit fuzzy or you’ve
overdone the excesses of the festive
period, this is your chance to savour
some fresh air and get your legs
