‘The Greening Campaign is coming to Stapleford’
Local residents are coming together to Launch Greening
Stapleford, an initiative where the community will pull
together to help reduce its impact on Climate Change.
The first phase of our action
plan is to get Stapleford residents to commit to the following
challenges which will be on presented on Greening Stapleford
Challenge Cards which will be delivered to each household:
Turn off lights when you leave the room
- Turn off all standbys
- Wash Laundry at 30°C
- Walk if journey is less than a mile
- Boil only the amount of water needed
- Turn the thermostat down by 1°C
- Turn off taps when brushing teeth
(saving 4230 litres)
- Reduce each normal shower time by
1 minute (saving 4733 litres)
When residents have committed to the challenges on the
challenge cards they display the challenge cards in their
window for all to see. Greening Stapleford then count
the displayed challenged cards and calculate the amount
of Carbon Dioxide emissions saved as a community.
The results will be published for the community to show
how easy it is to make a big difference to Global Warming.
To highlight these challenges to the community we are
holding a Free Launch party in Stapleford which will host
performances by local residents, community groups and
Schools and will be opened by the Mayor of Stapleford.
Sure
Start Stapleford will be running under 5 activities and
refreshments will be available. This is a free family
event so
let’s join together and make a difference!!

Lilley School, Halls Road, Stapleford NG9 7FS on Saturday

The Greening campaign began in Petersfield when Terena
Plowright decided to do something in her own town to try
and ‘make a difference’. The campaign was
so successful that since then many other villages and
towns across the South of England and beyond are now joining
together to begin to address reducing their CO2 emissions
and reducing the amount of water they waste.
‘The campaign is great fun’ said Terena ‘
it gives the community a way to work together to tackle
Climate Change and makes it a positive experience instead
of a nightmare’.
Local resident Hayley Holden explained ‘Climate
change has worried many of our residents for a long time
now and we thought it was time that we acted together
to make some small changes that will make a big difference.
This is why we are starting ‘Greening Stapleford’.
